Concert Choir

ABOUT

The Concert Choir is open to children entering grades 4 through 8 who complete a successful audition. Concert Choir participants are exposed to a wide array of musical styles, composers and languages within a structured and dynamic rehearsal environment. The Concert Choir performs at various times throughout the year, including our two ticketed performances in the concert hall and other venues around the greater Houston area. Additionally, the Concert Choir has alternated serving as artists-in-residence in Galveston, Maine and Mexico and has toured both domestically and internationally.

Rehearsals for Concert Choir are held in the Museum District from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sundays (extended once a month from 2-5).

AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS:

The Prospective Chorister Form and fee must both be received in our office before we will schedule an in person audition. A member of the Chorus staff will then contact you to schedule your child for his/her 5-8-minute audition slot. Please do not attend an audition date without a confirmed appointment.

THE AUDITION is simple and merely a chance for our staff to meet your child and to make certain he or she is singing on pitch — matching the notes that are played on the piano.  We ask that the child learn and sing “MY COUNTRY ‘TIS OF THEE”.  (first verse only). You can find samples on YouTube.  We will provide words and music at the audition.  The child’s parent is not in the room when the audition takes place. One of our staff members will meet with the parent to explain commitment.
