The Concert Choir is open to children entering grades 4 through 8 who complete a successful audition. Children are exposed to a wide array of musical styles, composers and languages within a structured and dynamic rehearsal environment. The Concert Choir performs at various times throughout the year, including our two ticketed performances in the concert hall, and other venues around the greater Houston area. Additionally, the Concert Choir has alternated as serving as artists-in-residence in Galveston, Maine and Mexico and has toured both domestically and internationally.
Rehearsals for Concert Choir are held in the Museum District, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sundays (and once a month from 2-5).
Tuition for the Concert Choir is $750 per year (September through May). Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
To sign up for an audition (4th-8th graders), download the 2017-2018 Prospective Chorister Information form, complete it and return it to the Chorus along with a $50 non-refundable registration fee. The form and fee (check made payable to Houston Children’s Chorus or credit card payment via the payment button below) must both be received in our office before we will schedule an audition. You may also request an emailed link to make your payment.. A member of the Chorus staff will then contact you to schedule your child for his/her 5-8-minute audition slot. Please do not attend an audition date without a confirmed appointment time or we will be unable to see you.
The Preparatory Choir is for children entering 2nd or 3rd grades, and auditions are not required to join. The purpose of the Prep Choir is to introduce children to the fundamentals of music within the framework of a performing ensemble. Children will be taught music, vocal and performance skills including posture, breathing, note-reading, diction and other essential techniques. The Prep Choir performs at the end of each semester in ticketed events in the concert hall. This ensemble serves as a wonderful introduction to the Chorus and provides a comprehensive musical foundation for its members. Once a child completes 3rd grade, they are eligible to apply to audition for the Concert Choir. The Prep Choir usually only sings at the end-of-semester concert in Stude Concert Hall at Rice University.
